List Of Countries European Union: The actual idea of the European Union is supposed to be years back in 1950 in the month of May and day of the 9th. Therefore this day is celebrated as the Europe Day. Initially there were six countries who signed the agreement of the European Economic Community. It was signed in the year 1957. The countries were Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Slowly other countries joined up with Ireland, Denmark, and UK joining in 1973. The joined Greece in the 80s along with the Spaniards and the Portuguese. As years progressed, more countries joined and currently the member nations number to 28. The European Union offers trade without borders with a single market. There is a single currency also in use with the Euro being used by 19 members of the Eurozone.
