List Of South American Countries: When you consider the supercontinent of the Americas, South America forms the complete southern part of it. At its west is the Pacific Ocean; in the north, apart from the North American continent, there is the Atlantic Ocean, which also covers the east. Northwest has the Caribbean Sea. It is connected to North America at the Panama and Colombia state boundary. There are three dependent territories and twelve independent countries here. The largest and most known of the countries is Brazil which actually constitutes 50% of the main land area. They also account for 52% of the territory.
