North American Countries: The northern half of the new world is called the North American continent. It has the Arctic Ocean in the North. Towards the east is the Atlantic Ocean. In the west and south is the Pacific Ocean. It has its only overland boarder with the southern part of the new world which runs along the boundary of Colombia and Panama. There are a total of 23 independent states in North America. The most famous of this is the United States while the largest is Canada. Together they occupy almost 79% of the continent’s whole area. The smallest countries are islands which are part of the Caribbean called Saint Kitts and Nevis. The smallest and most densely populated country in the central part of North America is El Salvador.
