When we look for the commonest legal tender in the world, there is nothing else other than currency that comes up.  We used to depend on the barter system in the past for transactions and purchase. With the advent of currencies, this has changed to coins and paper notes.  These are produced by various nations by printing or minting.  There is of course the risk that counterfeit is produced without scruples.  Hence nations make sure they have enough security features in the coins and notes such that the counterfeiting is countered.  In most cases, the currencies would be determined by the nation.  However, there are cases where countries have adopted the currencies of other countries.  A common example would be the USD a currency from the North American country of the USA.  The central bank of a nation has the rights from its government to circulate money

The economy of a country is always vastly dependent on the value of its currency.  Hence cases are not rare where the value of the currency is destabilized by enemy nations in a bid to kill off the economy of a country. Introducing counterfeit note is one way they do it.  Now here is a look at some of the currencies of the North American continent.  The most famous of course is the USD.  It is not just used by the USA but by other countries as well.  The other currency used by a number of nations is the East Caribbean Dollar, by 6 states and 2 territories.  The USD is dominant around the world as a currency.

Some of the other North American currencies include Canadian Dollar (Canada), Honduran lempira (Honduras), Jamaican Dollar (Jamaica), Mexican Peso (Mexico), Haitian gourde (Haiti), Guatemalan quetzal (Guatemala).  As can be seen, there are quite a variety of currencies in addition to the European Euro which is used by its territories in North America. north american currencies and countries
