Ever wondered which are the largest countries of this world?  Many would have studied this at school, but many would have forgotten.  The largest would not be, although it has shrunk to Russia from the earlier USSR.  You may also not remember the order or the rank in the list.  Time to dust out those cobwebs and take a look at those names again and find where they stand with regard to the size of the country with regard to the area.  A few things to keep in mind would be that we are taking into account the land body as well as the water bodies.  Also included would the overseas territories of the countries to give the complete picture with the total area count.

So as said earlier, the largest one goes to Russia.  What would be the size of the country in square kilometre?  Any guess?  An enormous 17,098,242 sq.km.  This large surface area also means that the country would share its border with a large number of other countries – yes, for Russia it stands at 14; imagine that!  The second and third largest come from the North American continent.  Here things take a different turn for Canada, the second largest.  It has only one country that it shares its border with and that is the third largest country, the USA.  Size wise it is only just a little above half the size of Russia.  USA is a close second with a slight difference of ~100,000 sq. km. separating the two.

People’s Republic of China comes fourth and is the first one completely from Asia, while the fifth recently hosted the Olympics at Rio, Brazil.  The list goes on with Australia, India, Argentina, Kazakhstan, and Algeria taking up the remaining positions in that descending order.  Quite an interesting read, if you want to find out more about the largest countries.
