Asian Countries:

Asia is a landmass towards the eastern side of the Eurasian continent.  On its North side is the Arctic Ocean.  Towards its east we have the Pacific Ocean.  To the south of Asia lies the Indian Ocean.   Towards the west it has Africa (however it has the Suez canal separating it from Africa) and the Mediterranean sea and the black sea separating it from Europe.  The western border goes through the countries like Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.  This means that the countries are seen as part of both Europe and Asia.  Another two countries who are geographically in Asia but are part of Europe due to the cultural and political considerations are Cyprus and Armenia.

Russia as everyone knows is the largest of countries in the world and hence the largest in Asia as well.  You can further understand the size of the country if you realize that 30% of Asia is Russia.  To the other extreme is the Maldives, a fishing and touristic spot, and a group of islands.  There is rich diversity in the culture of the Asian countries which can be felt it in its cuisines, dressing, religions, political affinities, heritage, sports, etc.  This kind of a variety would be difficult to find in the other
continents of the world.

Some interesting facts about the countries of Asia – there are 50 recognized countries in total. ‘T’ seems to be the most preferred starting alphabet for country names in Asia – there are 6 of them.  This is followed closely by ‘S’ and ‘I’ at 5 each.  The fourth and seventh largest countries of the world, namely People’s Republic of China and India are part of Asia.  The Great wall of China and the Taj Mahal are situated in the Asian countries of China and India respectively.
